Winchcombe

The ancient Saxon town of Winchcombe is situated in a beautiful Cotswold valley mid way between Broadway and Cheltenham.

The name Winchcombe means ‘valley (combe) with a bend (winch)’, and today the town still retains the original main street, which curves gracefully along the valley.

The inns, restaurants, tearooms, and shops set among Winchcombe’s three main streets are full of the character of times past.

Winchcombe is home to Sudeley Castle, with its royal connections dating back over 1000 years. Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII’s six wives is entombed in it’s beautiful 15th century church where, in more recent times, actress Liz Hurley (who was given away by Sir Elton John) married textile heir Arun Nayar.
